Capital of the province, Santa Bárbara boasts of a splendid geographical situation. Santa Bárbara de Samaná was built in 1756 by the Spanish brigadier Francisco Rubio Peñaranda, who was then governor of the island. At the beginning of the 20th century, a fire destroyed all its beautiful colonial architecture. Today this modern and flirtatious city grows parallel to its bay and the huge bridge built by the dictator Trujillo, which follows the horizon and offers uninterrupted fun for children and adults.
