They say that in the late eighteenth century the peninsula was almost completely uninhabited and a French pirate named Juan, originally from Nantes, decided to flee from his companions whom he exceeded in cruelty, taking refuge in a corner of the peninsula. Twenty-two years later, this hermit was discovered by one of his former companions. The place where Juan resided during this time was named, is his honor, the name of El Ermitaño.
ermitaño beach mapEl Ermitaño, made up of three beaches, each one more beautiful, is a true tropical paradise, still uncontaminated, without any type of construction or beach bars, surrounded by hills full of lush vegetation practically down to the sea. The smallest of them, a beautiful cove with turquoise and deep waters, is called Punta Ermitaño,

Currently the entire area is the subject of a new real estate project and we imagine it can change a lot in a short time.
The location is a few kilometers east of the town of El Limón. Access, at the moment, is only possible by boat, from Las Terrenas, or on foot from Las Canas beach (more or less 45 minutes). If you decide to walk we advise you to take a guide.
