Playa Rincon

In the Samaná Peninsula there are several classic excursions: El Limón Waterfall, Humpback Whales (only during the winter season), Los Haitises National Park, Cayo Levantado … These are the proposals that you will find in each script or guide information about the region. But if you have time, curiosity, enthusiasm … there are many more places to visit, starting with its paradisiacal beaches.

One of them is El Valle, a wonderful beach, still uncontaminated and almost deserted that excites all those who prefer to get away from the most frequented places. The excursion is not only highly recommended for the beauty of the beach, but also for its beautiful route, very panoramic and a little adventurous.

The dirt road begins near Santa Barbara de Samaná, when the city is left in the direction of Las Galeras, and is signposted with the classic Brugal sign.

Although the track is very wide, it is not always in good condition – we recommend 4×4, quad or all-terrain motorcycle. Its approximately 10 km. They go up and down through small rural villages (La Casualidad, La Cruz …), where all the children will come out to greet them. Cross the San Juan river twice and give beautiful views of the hills and local vegetation, until you reach the beach. In the few beach bars installed there you will be able to taste a tasty typical Dominican dish, usually fresh fish of the day, cooked over charcoal.

The beach is long and worth a walk to stretch your legs after the trip. Discover, on the left, the mouth of the San Juan river, and on the right, behind the beautiful rocks, you can bathe in the small natural freshwater pool formed by the filtration of the rocks.

If you decide to go on this excursion, when you start your return to Santa Bárbara de Samaná, do not stop approaching the Lulu Waterfall, so called by the locals. Instead of turning right along the same path as the first leg, go straight to the end of the town, where you can park your vehicle. In a short walk of only 6 or 7 minutes, along a path, bordering the river, overflowing with banana trees, coffee, spectacular bamboo bushes … you will reach the waterfall. The site, an almost unknown corner, is really beautiful and, on holidays, it is usually animated by the children of the town. A comforting dip in the waterfall to remove salt from your body is a delight before heading back.
